The Bible says, “to surround yourself with like minded people.” The older I get, the more I genuinely love being around calm people. The people that chooses their words wisely, thinks before they speak, and never raising their voice. People that are not living to show off, prove a point, or convincing others of their worth and value. They just simply live in a quiet and peaceful way; avoiding harm to no one, including themselves. I find those people aspiring.
This world is very chaotic and noisy. It is filled with a lot of drama, demands, and there is always the unexpected. Negativity is contagious, fear is contagious, but so is happiness and kindness. It’s up to you to choose. For me? I am unsubscribing from the circus and unfollowing the chaos. I have no control over others and their actions/words, but I do in fact have control over my own self. I am choosing to stop self-manufacturing stress and allowing stress to override my joy and peace.
The truth is that calmness isn’t found when everything settles. It is found when we choose to rest in Jesus. He is not shaken by our storms, nor is He surprised by our circumstances. We must always remember that the same voice that calmed the sea, is the same voice speaking peace over our minds and hearts today. True peace isn’t when the waves stop. It means you know who is in the boat with you. Jesus is our anchor, our calm, and our constant.
So no matter what today holds – take a moment to breathe in His presence. Instead of complaining or gossiping, whisper a prayer instead. Turn your worries into worship. Let His presence be our still place in the storm. The chaos around you doesn’t have to control you, because Christ lives within us.
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me – everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:8-9 NLT
